The Days Inn we crashed at was of the typical interior courtyard style that you find in southern California. Dan arrived and we drove down to San Pedro (along Palos Verdes so they could see the Portuguese Bend landslide area) and had lunch at the Pacific Diner... then walked down to Cabrillo Beach and climbed on the rubble, checked out the tidal pools (there were lots of purple sea urchins), and watched Dan try to get himself washed out to sea. Then we walked up 37th to Angel's Gate park and soaked up the culture of the Korean Friendship Bell... and enjoyed the clearest view of Catalina that I've ever seen. Then we went to Huntington Beach and goofed off, took Greg to his first In-N-Out and to the Vans Skatepart at The Block... ate Japanese food at Oomasa.
Sunday... Roscoe's Chicken and Waffle--just go, trust me, best soul food I've had in a long time. Wandered around Melrose, found a copy of Link 80's 10" at one of the many record stores... spent money at the Jnco outlet. Back in Alhambra, had ice cream, did the Internet cafe thing... rented a movie.
Dan showed up yesterday morning to pick us up with a sample of LA's newest drink fad... pearl tea. Tastes like chai but has a big fat straw and tapioca in the bottom of the cup. And then after two failed attempts, we finally got to eat at Arturo's Puffy Taco, which is totally out of the way in the middle of Whittier but is so worth the drive. Uneventful flights back east... and now I'm back at work, trying to figure out if I'm going back in three weeks for a kick-ass show at The Palace.
